ICSC 2007

Message from the General Chairs

The field Semantic Computing applies technologies in natural language processing, data and knowledge engineering, software engineering, computer systems and networks, signal processing and pattern recognition, etc. and any combination of the above to extract, access, transform and synthesize the semantics (contents) of multimedia, texts, services and structured data. Some areas of Semantic Computing have appeared as isolated pieces, and it glues these pieces together into an integrated theme and addresses their synergetic interactions. The First IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing (ICSC2007) is the first international conference dedicated to this exciting new discipline.  We are glad this new conference is well received.

Many individuals have contributed to the success of ICSC2007. In particular we would like to thank the Organizing Committee including Drs. Milind Naphade, Heather Yu, Hasida Koiti (Program Co-chairs), Gerald Friedland, Xiao-Ping Zhang (Program Coordination Co-chairs), all track chairs, chairs of all program related committees, Drs. Nozha Boujemaa, Pascal Frossard, Belle Wei, Bruce Roberts, Li Zhang, Baowen Xu, Atsushi Kitazawa, Rong-Ming Chen, Y.C. Wang (Publicity Co-chairs), Weide Chang, Tao Wu (Publication Co-chairs), George Taehyung Wang (Finance and Local Arrangement Chair) and members of the program committee for their timeless efforts. We also like to thank members of the steering committee (Drs. Jeffrey Tsai, C.V. Ramamoorthy, Arif Ghafoor, Raymond Paul, Jake Aggarwal, Nikolaos Bourbakis and A.K. Onoma) for their guidance and advices.

Semantic Computing is emerging quickly as an interdisciplinary area that is full of promises. Tremendous amounts of research have been done in the past and there are a lot more to be done in the future. We wish ICSC2007 a good start to bring together the researchers who have been working on different pieces of the field so we can all work together to facilitate the grand success of Semantic Computing.
